Spend a few minutes driving around Pereira and you won’t fail to notice the outdoor advertising campaign emblazoning the city by freshly inaugurated locomotive themed restaurant upstart Entre Vagones.
Entre Vagones sits to the side of the main highway entrance into Pereira travelling from Cartago - where the Via Cerritos meets the Avenida 30 de Agosto. The self-styled ‘Cocina de Autor’ gourmet restaurant encompasses a beautiful neo-Colonial style cocktail bar with indoor seating area and a large outdoor garden area with seating that sits in between two renovated train carriages with converted interiors to provide a unique railway themed dining experience.
Let’s cut to the chase, the food here is really good. We’ve visited Entre Vagones several times since they opened around a year ago and each time I’ve been thoroughly satisfied with the food on offer. The menu devised by Head Chef Alejandro Mora, is a distinctive fusion of traditional Latina, Oriental and Mediterranean flavours. The portion sizes are decent and they also offer a great selection of unique house cocktails and desserts - the deep fried ice cream is delicious!
This is a lovely place to sit outside on a warm Cerritos evening with your loved ones.
The service is great and the Instagram friendly setting is a wonderful place to impress your latest Tinder date, or to come with your family. If I had any complaints, I would say that the food is a little on the expensive side. In fact, it’s probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Pereira, more expensive on average than Ambar which serves similar gourmet chef style dishes. I’m also not a fan of one of the train carriages which is decked out in a modern style with neon lighting and plastic table and chairs inside. It has the vibe of a fast-food joint, which just doesn’t chime well with the pricey gourmet food on offer. The other train carriage is nice, an old-fashioned traditional sort of vibe but to be quite honest, the best seating in the restaurant are the outside table and chairs. This is a lovely place to sit outside on a warm Cerritos evening with your loved ones.
If you’re into gastronomy and decent food however, this is a place you can’t afford to miss. They do get busy on weekends so making a reservation is highly recommended.
